It was pretty decent. I didn't really like the twist they tried to pull at the end because it really just didn't make sense. However I would recommend watching Eureka 7 or Code Geass over it. However if you've already watched both of those, check it out it's not the best anime but it has enough good parts that it's worth watching.

We watched it during its airing between 11/11 and 3/12. Male lead was horribly dull and as you say things often didn't make sense but the eye candy somewhat made up for those shortcomings. We can't say we weren't entertained, in any case.
Never seen Geass, but were big fans Eureka 7 and its sequel Astral Ocean. Other sci-fi series I'd recommend:
Bodacious Space Pirates (way more lighthearted then GC)
Aquarion Evol (way crazier)
Rinne no Lagrange (better characters, girl power)
Muv-Luv Alternative (but not as good-looking but dark and gritty)
